I sit still with lightning for a head. I sleep like a rock with spiders in my bed. I eat the dirt to learn about the land. I wave goodbye with nothing for a hand. And I breathe in terror for oxygen. I swear I'm sitting at a bus stop next to a demon. Then I breathe out nothing of consequence. I do it again, until I can manage a greeting. And it's very unfortunate that we just can't run from anything, because if we could, I think I would run from this. And it's very unfortunate that we can't really make each other feel better, because if we could, then I'd give you a kiss and that would be it.

I try to welcome my sorrow. There's no escape, anyway. If a guest turns up uninvited, do you burn your house down to keep them away? I think of my grandparents, and I think of their sons, who can't set aside themselves and just be there for once. I think of my brother. I've never been there for him. He's always had to be brave. I've been a coward since we were kids. And it goes on and on and on and on and on. I try to welcome the joy, but I don't want to hold it too tight. Does it matter how much you love the sun? It's still going to set at night. I think of my dad, writing haikus for butterflies. Something's changed in his life. He used to have so much pain in his eyes. I think of my mom. She's always been so smart, but she keeps getting wiser the more she listens to her heart. And it goes on and on and on and on. It goes on and on and on and on.

I'm just a monkey trying to be a statue. I'd rather stand still forever than face the terror of moving. So thank goodness, no matter what I do, I'm a tidal wave blade of grass brush fire grain of sand flat tire broken glass coyote dandelion growing out of a boot. Stop talking to yourself all the time, and you'll inherit the earth. Please wake up now, the world really needs you desperately. Stop forcing yourself to be good, and you'll be as kind as the sun. Please cheer up now, we've been waiting for you all your life. I have ideas. I have them all the time. I've gotta make up more of them, or I'll fall behind. So thank goodness, no matter what's on my mind, really we're just here in the living room. And that's just fine. Stop talking to yourself all the time, and you'll inherit the earth. Please wake up now, the world really needs you desperately. Stop forcing yourself to be bad, and you'll be as kind as the sun. Please cheer up now, we've been waiting for you all your life.

about

Free downloads at: archive.org/details/CocoonMusic
The paid downloads help me to live, though, and I appreciate the support.

Cocoon Music was recorded in a couple days at the end of August 2015. Patrick Schneeweis (that's me!) wrote and recorded the songs, with plenty of help from GarageBand effects and software instruments.

Tracks 4 & 6 are covers from the Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass album Baby Steps. He is my brother. Hear the originals at: michaeljordantouchdownpass.bandcamp.com/album/baby-steps

Track 5 includes the gang from the band Kitten Crisis singing backup vocals (kittencrisis.bandcamp.com). Tracks 1 & 5 include quotes from the very puzzling, challenging, one-of-a-kind Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. You'll have to look into him yourself and make up your own mind, I'm afraid.

This document is an ending. Goodbye!

This document is a beginning. Hello! It's such a pleasure to meet you! May we abandon our cocoons and find that everything we need has been just outside the door all along.
